Wisconsin Rapids, WI August 13, 2010. And so a season of firsts all comes down to this. The Rafters close their inaugural season with four games in front of the home crowd starting tonight with the final game of a three game set against the Eau Claire Express.
Outscored 21-5 in the first two games of the series, the Rafters turn to Cody Koback to hold the Express offense in check tonight. Koback, with one start this season, also has the daunting task of halting a six game losing skid. The two way right-hander from UW-Stevens Point has a 4.26 ERA over seven appearances this season and a .309 batting average in 55 games.
Though 0-6 since a walk off winner last Thursday, the Rafters have scored 31 runs over the past six games and are hitting .254 as a team over the stretch. The Rafters have also scored a run in the first inning of their last four games.
Evan Laude, with seven hits and nine RBI over his last nine games has helped lead the offensive cause. The slick fielding first baseman from Rhode Island now leads the team in run production with 23 knocked in this season.
Friday night is Rafters Hat Night presented by Charter Communications. The first 500 fans through the gates at 6:05 will receive a Rafters cap. Saturday the Rafters Welcome in the Battle Creek Bombers for the final three game series of the season. Gates open at 6:05 for the 7:05 start and stick around after the game for the final Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Veolia.
